Can I give it a fixed address?

Yes. The easier way is in your router: reserve an address for the ticker’s MAC, shown in the settings page’s footer, and the router hands it the same address every time. The other way is on the ticker: the Wi-Fi page during setup or Device → Wi-Fi… later lets you type an address, gateway and mask. The ticker tests a fixed address at every start and, if it reaches nothing, asks the router for one for that session and says so on the screen: That fixed address / isn't working.
