Setup restarted for a fresh start

Symptoms

No activity: nobody used my setup Wi-Fi for 15 minutes, restarting for a fresh start, with a countdown Retrying your Wi-Fi: the saved network’s name, I’ll restart and try it again

The glass shows No activity in yellow, Nobody used my setup / Wi-Fi for 15 minutes / Restarting for a fresh start, and a large number counting down. On a ticker that opened setup because it could not reach its saved network, the card reads Retrying your Wi-Fi with the network’s name and I'll restart and try it again instead. The ticker restarts; the CT network is gone for a few seconds and then back, with the cards from the beginning.

Cause

The setup network is held open only while somebody is using it. A device counts as present while it is joined to the CT network and for 45 seconds after it last talked to the ticker; after 15 minutes with nobody present, the ticker restarts to clear anything that went wrong. On a ticker with a saved network, that restart is also a fresh try at joining it — which is how a ticker left alone recovers by itself after a temporary refusal.

Fix

  1. Wait for the countdown and the restart; the cards return within a minute.
  2. Join the CT network again with your phone and open the setup page. Anything typed on the old page is gone; type it again.
  3. Finish the setup without leaving the page open unattended for long stretches.
