Symptoms

Firmware update didn’t finish: I’ll try again in 3 minutes, with the details underneath Update failed: connection lost, cut short at 412 of 1019 KB

Update paused: the server sent no valid fingerprint to check Server problem: manifest error 500

Cause

A download that stopped early, arrived damaged, or could not be fingerprint-checked is thrown away; the ticker keeps running the firmware it had. The commonest reasons are a weak or dropping Wi-Fi link partway through a megabyte download, and the server being unreachable at the moment of the check. Update paused means the server offered a file without a fingerprint to verify it against; the ticker refuses to install anything it cannot check. Update was interrupted is the one bad case: power was lost after installation had begun, leaving part of the image unwritten.

Fix

  1. Leave the ticker on. It retries at its next hourly check by itself; the card says I'll try again in and how long. Update N/A and Can't reach server mean the server did not answer this time; the next check is an hour away.
  2. If the reason was cut short, improve the link before then: move the ticker nearer the router or see The weak Wi-Fi card keeps appearing. The ticker also postpones on its own when the signal is very poor.
  3. Update paused and Server problem are at the server’s end. Nothing to do; the next check finds a corrected file.
  4. Update was interrupted: the ticker still runs, but a repair is needed. The server has been told, and the ticker takes the next published version on its own if it can. Contact Lee: Contact.
