Do I need a phone?

No. The ticker needs some device with Wi-Fi and a browser twice: once to join its setup network and choose your Wi-Fi, and later to open its settings page and pick coins. A phone, a tablet or a computer will do. The one thing a phone does better is scan the QR code the ticker shows for its address; on a computer you type the address instead, as the ticker’s own screen explains (Open a browser. / Enter into its / ADDRESS BAR:).

After setup the ticker runs on its own; no device needs to stay connected.
