Too many password tries

• Too many tries, wait 10 seconds, then try again.

Symptoms

• Too many tries, wait N seconds, then try again. after several wrong passwords, and the Unlock button is held for that long.

Cause

Five wrong passwords in a row start a hold: ten seconds the first time, doubling on further runs of failures up to thirty seconds. It makes guessing slow and costs a genuine owner a few seconds. A correct password ends the count. Requests that offer no password at all, like a view-only browser dismissing a banner, are not counted.

Fix

1. Wait out the seconds the message names.
2. Type the password you chose, not the four-digit code from the ticker’s screen; see Unlock refuses the 4-digit code.
3. Tap Unlock once.
